APEM is Europe’s leading independent environmental consultancy specialising in freshwater and marine ecology and aerial surveys. We offer work of the highest quality and scientific integrity, together with excellent service.
Headquartered in Manchester, we have over 120 staff in eight offices throughout the UK, as well as operating a joint venture in the United States.
APEM’s scientists and experts are recognised leaders in their fields and cover a diverse range of specialisms. Over 90 per cent of our staff are qualified to degree level or above, bringing to the company 21 PhDs, 59 master’s degrees and five full time pilots.
We are the UK’s leading provider of aquatic ecological services for both freshwater and marine environments, offering consultancy, laboratory services and field surveys. We work on environmental impact assessments, habitats regulations assessments and implementation of the Water Framework Directive for clients including water companies, power companies, engineering consultancies, regulators and national and local government.
APEM’s freshwater consultancy covers water monitoring, resource evaluation, fisheries consultancy and water conservation and management. Our marine consultancy covers all aspects of the ecology of the marine environment including mammals, fish, benthic macroinvertebrate ecology, plankton, sediment and water quality.
We are Europe’s leading provider of laboratory biological services for both freshwater and marine environments, with five superbly equipped laboratories around the UK, highly trained staff and UKAS accreditation for a range of biological analysis, including freshwater and marine invertebrates, phytoplankton and diatoms.
Our field survey team operates throughout the UK and Ireland, with high quality equipment, purpose built survey vessels and dedicated survey vehicles meaning we can operate in the most challenging of locations and conditions.
APEM is one of Europe’s fastest growing providers of aerial surveys. As the leading provider of digital aerial bird surveys for the offshore wind industry we have carried out over 300 surveys and worked on seven of the nine Round Three offshore wind zones. We have worked with all of the leading offshore windfarm developers, including ScottishPower Renewables, Smart Wind, Centrica, Dong, as well as Natural England, The Crown Estate and Marine Scotland.
We also provide surveys of building energy efficiency, monitoring of thermal outfalls and oil spills and surveys of pipeline and cable routes, roads, rivers, canals and railways.
Our fleet of five modern aircraft are equipped with state of the art cameras and sensors and we were the first company in Europe to purchase the ultra-high resolution Leica RCD30 digital survey camera.
